El Blok
The El Blok hotel is located on the small coastal town on a beautiful island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. Stuart Allen, as the owner’s representative, architectural and interiors consultant, undertook co-ordination and collaboration between the architect and engineers.
Key contributions included material resources, innovative construction development, interior architecture and developing ideas as a team, working with the contractor to achieve value engineering, improve programming and overcome. Collaborating with FUSTERr+Architects to achieve the Gold LEED-certified building. The design intent of a round-edged concrete structure punctuated by lattice work celebrates Puerto Rico’s postwar modernist architecture popular in San Juan in the 1950’s. The result is an iconic inn by the sea - part sculpture, part oasis. The bar and restaurant with rooms - that aims to be a soft landing for the intrepid traveller after a hard day of relaxation. Affordable, simple rooms appointed with touch of luxe. Coloured hidraulico tiles, exposed concrete, native woods, clean, spare, exciting spaces
