The Bab Al Yam Restaurant is located in the Burj Al Arab, the World’s only seven star hotel, flagship building of the Jumeirah Resort. This project’s main aim was to ensure the guest experience was heightened through cultural influences, dramatic views towards the horizon and connection to the outdoors and private beach / terrace.
The hotel’s central restaurant needed to be enlarged and modernized to allow guests to be drawn into a dynamic and energizing space, where they experience a setting which is seamless for adaptable public, dining events and occasions. An importance was placed on a sense of arrival. Entering from the Burj Al Arab’s notorious central foyer space, guests are lead through a narrow gauge to a dramatic triple height reception flooded with natural light from above, and fused with opulent and timeless materials, which produces a warmth and richness to the space. Thereafter guests are greeted by a 180 degree expansive view towards a seaward horizon. The subtle material palette and internal treatment places an emphasis on the horizon vista and heightens it’s dramatic impact. The surrounding terrace provides a natural outdoor ambience in keeping with the neutral palette of materials and textures used within the restaurant. These materials in combination with luxurious furnishings and vegetation provides ideal shading and privacy, to give a purist dining experience. As lead design consultant, AAID’s role was to manage and co-ordinate all design related sub consultants to deliver an outlined scheme design to the highest quality finish and time frame, as expected by a seven star hotel and its clientèle.
